Warner Bros. just dropped the first trailer for The Bride, Maggie Gyllenhaal's new monster flick, and it looks like someone took Bride of Frankenstein, spiked it with Natural Born Killers, and sprinkled in just enough arthouse energy to make you wonder if this is genius or trying too hard to be edgy. Honestly? It might be both.
The story follows Frankenstein's monster (Christian Bale) wandering into 1930s Chicago to get some help building himself a girlfriend (Jessie Buckley). Enter Dr. Euphronius, a resurrection later, and suddenly we've got the Bride: a furious, vibrant creation who sparks romance, police chases, and what the synopsis calls a "radical social movement." Which instantly makes me not want to watch it, But I will probably see it anyway.
People online are already saying this is what the Joker 2 musical should've been - twisted, romantic, weirdly revolutionary. Personally this is giving me Jerad Leto Joker energy, but I still have some hope, if only because of the cast. Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, and even Jake Gyllenhaal (in his sister's movie!)? That's stacked. Add Joker's cinematographer and Elvis's production designer, and you've got vibes.
Mark your calendar: The Bride hits theaters March 6, 2026.
